Iron filings and sulphur were mixed together and divided into two parts, A and B. Part A was heated strongly while part B was not heated.  Dilute hydrochloric acid was added to both the parts and evolution of gas was seen in both the cases. How will you identify the gases evolved?

    Answer:

                      (i) Alloys, although solids are classified as solutions   because   of  their   uniform composition throughout. Actually these are solid solutions, i.e., homogeneous mixtures of metals and/or non-metal.                                (2) (ii) A solution is generally a liquid, not always. For example Alloys are known to be solid solutions.                                                            (1) (iii) The term solution is generally used for 'true solution'. In this case, the solution is always homogeneous.                                    (1) In case of 'colloidal solution', that is not a true solution, the solution is heterogeneous.    (1)
