The factors responsible for soil formation are
(i) The Sun heats up the rocks during the day so that they expand. In
night, rocks cool down and contract.
This unequal expansion and contraction
of rocks results in formation of cracks and ultimately they break.
(ii) Water could get into cracks and widen them.
(iii) Wind erode the rocks down and also carry sand soil from
one place to another.
(v)
Living organisms like lichens grow on surface of rocks, cause the rocks
to powder down and form a thin layer of soil.
