On the basis of Thomson's model of an atom, explain how the atom is neutral as a whole.

    Answer:

According to J.J. Thomson's model, an atom is a sphere in which positive charge is uniformly distributed. The electrons are embedded into it in such a way to give most stable electrostatic arrangement. This model explains the neutrality of the atom because equal number of electrons and positively charged particles are embedded together.
