      What are scintillations?

    Answer:

                                In Rutherford's model of an atom, the a -particles were first passed through a fine slit and then made to strike against the gold foil. The particles got scattered and produced the bright flashes. These bright flashes are known as scintillations. These scintillations were produced on a circular screen covered with a substance, zinc sulphide.
