    (i) The given figures are of trachieds and vessels of xylem tissue.                                (1) (ii) The differences between tracheids and vessels are given below  
    Tracheids Vessels
    They are unicellular. They are multi cellular
    The ends are tapering or oblique The ends are round or transverse
    They are small-sized. They are large-sized
    More lignified. So have narrow lumen. Less lignified, so have wide lumen.
    Found in pteridophytes (ferns), gymnosperms and a few angiosperms. Found only in angiosperms.
    (1) (iii) Trachieds and vessels are lignified and provides mechanical strength to plant body they also function in carrying water and mineral salt from root to different parts of plant body.                                                     (1)
