(i) President Allende addressed himself mainly to the
worker's because he was a socialist and had taken several policy decisions to
help the poor and the workers.
(ii) President Allende was opposed to foreign companies
taking away natural resources like copper from the country. He implemented the
policy of the redistribution of land to the landless farmers and free education
and free milk for the poor children. The landlords, the rich and the church
opposed his policies and were unhappy with him for supporting the poor.
