                  Most important period in the expansion of democracy (i) Looking at these maps given on text book pages 8 and 9, we find the period 1975-2000 is the most important period in the expansion of democracy. (ii) During this period, most of the colonies  of  the  world  gained independence. Thus, in this period a number of countries have marched towards democracy.
