      In 'The Spirit of the Laws', Montesquieu proposed a division of power within the government between the Legislative, the Executive and the Judiciary. Explain the values which can be reflected in this proposal.

                      The values which can he derived from Montesquieu's proposal are (i) Power Sharing Montesquieu suggested a division of power within the government between the Legislative, the Executive and the Judiciary. This arrangement refuted the absolute right of the king. (ii) Equality There would be no special privileges for the first and second estates, i.e., the clergy and nobility. Everybody in the country should enjoy equal status. (iii) Expansion of People's Power Montesquieu opposed the theory of the 'Divine Right of the King'. His concept of separation of powers is a pre-requisite to eliminate corruption from the administration. It was a great instrument against the despotic rule of French emperor and established common man's power. Montesquieu believed that all powers should not be concentrated in one person's hand. He stressed on individual liberty.
