If the earth rotates faster than its present speed, the weight of an object will                [Haryana CEE 1996]

    A) Increase at the equator but remain unchanged at the poles

    B)             Decrease at the equator but remain unchanged at the poles

    C)             Remain unchanged at the equator but decrease at the poles

    D)             Remain unchanged at the equator but increase at the poles

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[g'=g-{{\omega }^{2}}R{{\cos }^{2}}\lambda \] Rotation of the earth results in the decreased weight apparently. This decrease in weight is not felt at the poles as the angle of latitude is 90o.
