A box contains coins of 50 paise, 1 rupee an 2 rupees. For 240 coins in the box, the ratio of 50 paise to 1 rupee to 2 rupees is 8 : 17 : 15. How many 1 rupee coins are there in the box?

    A)  48

    B)  90

    C)  102

    D)         108

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The given ratio is\[8:17:15\]. This ratio is part to part ratio. For holding the exact number of coins of each group, we need to convert the ratio in part to the whole and multiply with the total number of coins. \[i.e.\] \[50\] Paise: total coins \[=\frac{8}{8+17+15}=\frac{8}{40}\] \[1\]rupee: total coins    \[=\frac{17}{8+17+15}=\frac{17}{40}\] \[2\]rupee: total coins    \[=\frac{15}{8+17+15}=\frac{15}{40}\] We require to find out the total number of \[1\] rupee coins. Total number of \[1\] rupee coins\[=240\times \frac{17}{40}=6\times 17=102\].
