The ratio between the rates of walking of A and B is 2: 3. If the time taken by B to cover a distance is 24minutes, find the time taken by A to cover the same distance.

    A)  12 minutes

    B)         24 minutes

    C)  36 minutes

    D)         48 minutes

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Ratio of the speeds of \[A\] and\[B=2:3\]. Hence, using Relative Speed strategy (5), we get the time taken by them in the ratio\[3:2\] \[i.e.\]  \[A:B=3:2.\] It is given that \[B\] takes \[24\] minutes to cover a distance, we need to find the time taken by\[A\]. Let \[x\] be this time taken \[\therefore \]  \[\frac{3}{2}=\frac{x}{24}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[x=\frac{24\times 3}{2}=36\]minutes So, time taken by \[A=36\] minutes.
