Assertion: A spark occur between the poles of a switch when the switch is opened.
Reason: Current flowing is the conductor produces magnetic field.

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

    B) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    C) if assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If both assertion and reason are false.

    E) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

According to Lenz's law, induced e.m.f. are in a direction such as to attempt to maintain the original magnetic flux when a charge occurs. When the switch is opened, the sudden drop in the magnetic field in the circuit induces an emf in a direction that attempts to kept the original current flowing. This can cause a spark as the current bridges the air gap between the poles of the switch. (The spark is more likely in circuit with large inductance).
