JEE Main & Advanced Physics Two Dimensional Motion Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion          :           During a turn, the value of centripetal force should be less than the limiting frictional force.             Reason            :           The centripetal force is provided by the frictional force between the tyres and the road.

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The body is able to move in a circular path due to centripetal force. The centripetal force in case of vehicle is provided by frictional force. Thus if the value of frictional force \[\mu mg\] is less than centripetal force, then it is not possible for a vehicle to take a turn and the body would overturn.             Thus condition for safe turning of vehicle is,    \[\mu mg\ge \frac{m{{v}^{2}}}{r}.\]
