JEE Main & Advanced Physics Motion in a Straight Line / सरल रेखा में गति Question Bank Assertion and Reason

  • question_answer
Assertion          :           A body having non-zero acceleration can have a constant velocity. Reason            :           Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

    A)             If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

    B)             If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

    C)             If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D)             If the assertion and reason both are false.

    E)             If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

As per definition, acceleration is the rate of change of velocity, i.e. \[\vec{a}=\frac{d\vec{v}}{dt}.\]              If velocity is constant \[d\vec{v}/dt=0,\] \[\therefore \vec{a}=0.\]             Therefore, if a body has constant velocity it cannot have non zero acceleration.
