    B) If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion

    C) If the assertion is true but the reason is false

    D) If both the assertion and reason are false

    E) If the assertion is false but reason is true

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Hydrocyhory is the dispersal of fruits and seeds through the agency of water. As a natural agency for the dispersal of seeds, water is effective only for those plants which grow in water or so close to it that their seeds and fruits can easily fall in the water. seeds and fruits to be dispersed by water must have devices to prevent the penetration of water into the seeds and to keep them afloat for long periods. However, the seeds which lack such protective devices to prevent the entry of water would absorb water and after some time sink to the bottom and perish. Therefore, water cannot be ideal dispersal of all types of seeds.
