The average monthly salary of all the employees in a factory is Rs. 8840. Number of officers in the factory is 150. If the average salary of all the officers is Rs. 15000 and that of the remaining employees is Rs. 8000, then what is the percentage of the officers among the employees? [SSC CGL Tier II, 2017]

    A) 12%

    B) 15%

    C) 18%

    D) 20%

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    [a] Let total employee of a factory = x and number of officers = 150 Then, number of other employees \[=(x-150)\] Now, total salary of officers \[=150\times 15000\] and total salary of other employees \[=(x-150)\times 8000\] Now, according to the question, \[150\times 15000+(x-150)\times 8000=x\times 8840\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[15\times 15000+(x-150)\times 800=x\times 884\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[225000+800x-120000\text{ }=884x\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[884x-800x=225000-120000\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[84x=105000\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=1250\] Now, required percentage \[=\frac{150}{1250}\times 100=12%\]
