    [d] Let maximum score of the cricketer\[=x\] Then, his minimum score \[=x-172\] Now, total score in 40 innings \[=40\times 50=2000\] And total scores in 38 innings \[=38\times 48=1824\] \[\therefore \] Sum of remaining two innings \[=2000-1824=176\] Therefore, sum of maximum and minimum scores = 176 \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x+x-172=176\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[2x=348\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=174\] Thus, highest score of the cricketer is 174.
