10th Class Mathematics Probability Question Bank Case Based (MCQs) - Probability

  • question_answer
The probability that the ball dropped will fall in the patio is:

    A) 0

    B) 1

    C) \[\frac{11}{224}\]

    D) \[\frac{55}{224}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Probability that the ball dropped will fall in the patio
    \[=\frac{\text{Area of patio}}{\text{Total area of garden}}\]
Since area of the patio \[=\frac{1}{2}\times \pi {{r}^{2}}\]
    \[=\frac{1}{2}\times \frac{22}{7}\times \frac{5}{2}\times \frac{5}{2}=\frac{275}{28}{{m}^{2}},\] as patio is shaped
    like a semicircle of diameter 5 m.
    \[\therefore \]  Required probability
    \[=\frac{275/28}{40}=\frac{275}{1120}=\frac{55}{224}\]
    So, Option [d] is correct
