A) La Nina
B) Movement of Jet Stream
C) El Nino and Southern oscillations
D) Greenhouse effect on global level
Correct Answer: C
Solution :
El-Nino is a warm subsurface oceanic current which occasionally flow near the Peru coast. It comes into being as a result of southward shifting of the counter equatorial warm current and replaces the Peru Current. When this warm water enters the Indian Ocean the temperature rises and pressure decreases. This decrease in pressure leads to less/pressure gradient and monsoon rains become weak in the Indian sub-continent. The southern oscillation is described as sea-saw pattern of meteorological changes observed between the Pacific and the Indian oceans. The eastward shift of the southern oscillation, in an El Nino year reduces monsoon rainfall in the Indian sub-continent.You need to login to perform this action.
