A new type of El Nino called El Nino Modoki has been noticed. In this context, consider the following statements:
    1. Normal El Nino forms in the Central Pacific Ocean whereas El Nino Modoki forms in Eastern Pacific ocean.
    2. Normal El Nino results in diminished hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean but El Nino Modoki results in a greater number of hurricanes with greater frequency.
    Correct statements:

    A)  1 only

    B)  2 only

    C)  both 1 and 2

    D)  Neither 1 nor 2

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

El Nino Modoki is a recent discovery and has been observed only in the last decade. While traditional El Nino is characterized by higher temperature in the Eastern Equatorial Pacific Ocean, El Nino Modoki implies a warming up of the Central Pacific Ocean. In the event of El Nino Modoki, there are more hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean while under traditional El Nino conditions these hurricanes become less frequent. El Nino Modoki is supposed to be the result of global warming.
