By selling a jug for Rs.144, a man loses \[\frac{1}{7}\] of his outlay. If it is sold for Rs.189, what is the gain percent?

    A)  50%

    B)  25%

    C)         30%

    D)         \[12.5%\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Selling price of jug = Rs.144 Let the cost price of jug be Rs. x. Then, Loss \[=\frac{1}{7}\]of \[x=\frac{x}{7}\] Now, Loss \[=C.P.-S.P\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\frac{x}{7}=x-144\] or \[144=\frac{6x}{7}\Rightarrow x=Rs.168\] Since, cost price of jug = Rs.168. Now, selling price = Rs.189 \[\therefore \] Profit =\[Rs.\,(189-168)=Rs.\,21\] \[\therefore \] Profit % \[=\frac{21}{168}\times 100=12.5%\]
