    The East India Company concentrated on export of Indian manufactured goods like textiles, spices etc. to Europe because they were in great demand. The British people were extremely fond of Indian cottons especially calico. These originated from Kerala and were made by traditional weavers. The government paid in gold and silver to buy the Indian handmade textiles.
