Around 62 million tonnes of waste is generated annually in the country at present, out of which 5.6 million tonnes is plastic waste. The government has made rules on waste management which mention that it is mandatory to segregate waste to channelize the waste. Special Economic Zone need to leave at least 5 % of the total area for recovery and recycling facility. Bio-degradable waste should be processed, treated and disposed through composting or bio-methanation. Composting is the process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost.
