A ball of mass \[100\,\,g\] is moving with a velocity of\[10\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\]. The force of the blow by the bat acts for \[0.01\] seconds. What is the force exerted on the ball by the bat?

    A) \[100\,\,N\]

    B)        \[200\,\,N\]

    C) \[300\,\,N\]

    D)        \[400\,\,N\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[m=0.1\,\,kg\], \[V=10\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\] Before coming into contact with the bat, its momentum\[({{m}_{1}})=0.1\times 10=1\,\,kg\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\]. After coming into contact with the bat, the direction of its velocity gets reversed, i.e. its velocity will be \[=-10\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\]. \[\therefore \]Now, its momentum is\[({{m}_{2}})\] \[=0.1\times -10=-1\,\,kg\,\,m\,\,{{s}^{-1}}\]     \[\text{F=}\frac{\text{Change}\,\,\text{of}\,\,\text{momentum}}{\text{Time}}=\frac{{{m}_{2}}-{{m}_{1}}}{t}\] \[\therefore \]\[F=\frac{(-1)-1}{0.01}=\frac{-2}{0.01}=-200\,\,N\]
