Gandhiji fought the mighty British empire with the unique and novel method of Satyagraha. His method was based on truth and Non-Violence. He believed that the British would not be able to continue in India, if Indians stopped cooperating with the government. His methods included boycott of all British insulations including legislative councils, law courts, offices, schools, colleges, picketing of shops selling foreign goods, renunciation of honors and titles awarded by the British, refusing to buy foreign cloth, non-payment of tax, etc. Gandhiji made it clear that the movement of protest must be non-violent. He believed in Hindu-Muslim unity and supported Khilafat Movement.
