    The reasons for the rapid expansion of the: (a) Textile Industry in Ahmedadad. (i) Its strategic location in Gujarat on the banks of the Sabarmati river. Also, it is the heart of the cotton growing region. (ii) The humid climate which is ideal for spinning of yarn. (iii) Cheap hydroelectricity and soft water for dyeing and bleaching. (iv) Skilled and unskilled labour. (v) Not far from the port facilities of Mumbai and Karidia and connected by broad and rail to the rest of the country. (vii) Flat terrain and availability of land. (vii) India being a tropical country is a large market for the finished goods produced here. (viii) Capital is available from various financial institutions and public sector banks. (b) Iron and Steel Industry-Jamshedpur (i) Sakchi is ideally situated at the confluence of the river Subarnarekha and Kharkai in Jharkhand about 200 kms from Kolkata. (ii) Iron ore comes from Singh bhum, Mayurbhanj mines, coal from Jharia and Raniganj, limestone and dolomite from Odisha and Chhattisgarh, manganese from Keonjhar mines. (iii) The Damodar Valley project provides cheap and abundant hydroelectric power. (iv) Skilled and unskilled labour is available from Bihar and West Bengal.
