The LCM of two numbers is 495 and their HCF is 5. If sum of the numbers is 100, then find the difference of the numbers.

    A) 10

    B) 46

    C) 70

    D) 90

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    [a] Given, LCM = 495, HCF = 5 Let 1st number = x, 2nd number = y \[\therefore \]      \[xy=495\times 5\] [As, product of two numbers = HCF\[\times \]LCM] \[\Rightarrow \]  \[xy=2475\] We know that, \[{{(x-y)}^{2}}={{(x+y)}^{2}}-4xy\] \[={{(100)}^{2}}-4\times 2475\] \[=10000-9900=100\] \[\therefore \]      \[(x-y)=\sqrt{100}=10\]
