    The four steps taken by Government to improve Indian agriculture after independence are:
    (i) The persian wheel has been replaced by the pump.
    (ii) The plough has been replaced by tiller and harrow drawn by tractor.
    (iii) Drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation.
    (iv) Use of chemical fertilisers with bio-fertilisers.
    (v) High yielding and quick naturing variety of seeds.
    (vi) Abolition of Zamindari system.
    (vii) Consolidation of small landholdings.
    (viii) Introduction of crop insurance to provide security to the farmers against failure of crops.
