    Differentiate any four characteristic features of the cold weather season and the hot weather season.

    Answer:

    (a) The cold season begins from mid-November till February while the hot weather season starts from March to till May.
    (b) Temperatures decreases from south to the north. The average temperature of Chennai is between 24-250 Celsius while in the northern plains it ranges between \[10{}^\circ -15{}^\circ \]Celsius in the winter months. In contrast, temperatures are very high in the hot weather season and temperatures of \[42{}^\circ \] Celsius are very common at this time.
    (c) During the cold weather, the north east trade winds blow all over the country but do not bring rain. During the hot weather season, strong, gusty, hot day winds called 100 blow and dust storms are also common.
    (d) A characteristic feature of the cold weather season over the northern plains is the inflow of cyclonic distrubancs which bring winter rains to the plains. During the hot weather season associated thunderstorms associated with violent winds occur.
