    Answer:

    (a) Low growth rate of income accompanied by high growth rate of population resulted in very low per capita income. (b) The impact of the Green Revolution was restricted to only a few states and crops. The government has introduced several measures for the removal of poverty. Some important ones are: (a) National Food for Work Programme (NFWP), 2004 was launched in 150 backward districts. (i) It is open to all rural poor in need of wage employment. (ii) Food grains are provided free of cost to the states. (b) Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) staned in 1993 aims at creating self-employment opportunities for educated unemployed youth. (c) Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) was launched in 1995 and aims at creating self-employment opponunities in rural areas and small towns. (d) Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) was launched in 1999 to bring poor families above poverty line by organizing them into self-help groups through bank credit and government subsidy. (e) Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY) launched in 2000 gives additional central assistance to states for basic services such as primary health and education, rural shelter and drinking water and rural electrification. (f) Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) launched in 2000 to make available subsidized food grains to poor families.
