The de-Broglie wavelength of a neutron at 27oC is l. What will be its wavelength at 927oC                             [DPMT 2002]

    A)            l / 2

    B)            l / 3

    C)            l / 4

    D)            l / 9

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

                       \[{{\lambda }_{neutron}}\propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{T}}\]   Þ \[\frac{{{\lambda }_{1}}}{{{\lambda }_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{{{T}_{2}}}{{{T}_{1}}}}\]                     Þ\[\frac{\lambda }{{{\lambda }_{2}}}=\sqrt{\frac{(273+927)}{(273+27)}}=\sqrt{\frac{1200}{300}}=2\]   Þ\[{{\lambda }_{2}}=\frac{\lambda }{2}.\]
