10th Class Mathematics Areas Related to Circles Question Bank MCQs - Areas Related to Circles

  • question_answer
The sum of the areas of two circle, which touch each other externally, is \[153\pi \]. If the sum of their radii is 15, then the ratio of the Larger to the smaller radius is:

    A) \[4:1\]

    B) \[2:1\]

    C) \[3:1\]

    D) None of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

[a] Let the radii of the circles be \[{{r}_{1}}\] and\[{{r}_{2}},\] then
    \[{{r}_{1}}+{{r}_{2}}=15\]  (given) ...(1)
    and   \[\pi r_{1}^{2}+\pi r_{2}^{2}=153\pi \]   (given) ...(2)
    \[r_{1}^{2}+r_{2}^{2}=153\]
    \[r_{1}^{2}+(15-r_{1}^{2})=153\]
    On solving, we get
    \[{{r}_{1}}=12\]and \[{{r}_{2}}=3\]
    Required ratio \[=12:3=4:1\]
