  • question_answer
The difference between two numbers is 26 and one number is three times the other number. The numbers are

    A) 39 and 26

    B) 39 and 41

    C) 39 and 13

    D) None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the two numbers be x and\[y\text{ }\left( x>y \right)\].
    According to the question,
    \[x-y=26\]                                             ...(i)
    and             \[x\text{ }=\text{ }3y\]                    ...(ii)
On substituting the value of x from Eq. (ii) in Eq. (i), we get
    \[3y-y=26\]
    \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,2y=26\]
    \[\Rightarrow \,\,\,y=13\]
On substituting y = 13 in Eq. (ii), we get
    \[x=3\times 13\]
    \[\Rightarrow \,\,x=39\]
Hence, the two numbers are 39 and 13.
