Find the values of x and y in the following equations. \[x-3y=8\]and \[5x+3y=10\]

    A) \[x=3,\,y=-\frac{5}{3}\]

    B) \[x=-3,\,y=\frac{5}{3}\]

    C) \[x=-3,\,y=\frac{-5}{3}\]

    D) None of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Given equations are \[x\text{ }-3y\text{ }=8\]                                                ...(i) and       \[5x+3y=10\]               ...(ii) On adding Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[6x=18\,\,\,\Rightarrow \,x=\frac{18}{6}=3\] On putting x = 3 m Eq. (i), we get \[3-3y=8\,\,\Rightarrow 3y=3-8\Rightarrow y=\frac{-5}{3}\] Hence, x = 3 and \[y=\frac{-5}{3}\].
