The area of a trapezium is \[384\,c{{m}^{2}}.\]If its parallel sides are in the ratio 3 : 5 and the perpendicular distance between them, is 12 cm, the smaller of the parallel sides is

    A) 20 cm

    B) 24 cm

    C) 30 cm

    D) 36 cm

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    [b] Let the sides of trapezium be \[5x\]and \[3x,\]respectively. According to the question, \[\frac{1}{2}\times (5x+3x)\times 12=384\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[8x=\frac{384\times 2}{12}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{64}{8}=8\,cm\] \[\therefore \]Length of smaller of the parallel sides \[=8\times 3=24\text{ }cm\]
