The volume of water to be added to \[100c{{m}^{3}}\] of 0.5 N \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] to get decinormal concentration is                      [KCET (Engg.) 2001]

    A)                 400 \[c{{m}^{3}}\]

    B)                 500 \[c{{m}^{3}}\]

    C)                 450 \[c{{m}^{3}}\]

    D)                 100 \[c{{m}^{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

           Suppose the total volume of water = x            \[\therefore 100c{{m}^{3}}\times 0.5N=x\times 0.1N\]            \[\therefore x=\frac{100\times 0.5}{0.1}=500c{{m}^{3}}\]            Therefore the volume of water added                      \[=\text{Total}\,\,\text{volume--100c}{{\text{m}}^{\text{3}}}\] \[=500-100=400c{{m}^{3}}\].
