     The Vaikom Temple Entry Movement for Avarnas commenced in Travancore in 1924 after the Non-cooperation Movement. Many Savarna organisations like Nair Samajam and Kerala Hindu Sabha even the highest Brahmin caste in Kerala Namboodiris also supported the movement. E.V. Ramaswami Naicker leaded a Jatha (group) to enter into the temple and underwent imprisonment. Gandhiji in his Kerala tour, in March 1925 did not visit a single temple because Avarnas were kept out of them.
