Direction: Based on the following figures and the given table shows which the number of squares formed by the number of dots.                         ? and so on.
    Number of squares 1 4 9 16
    Number of dots 4 9 16 25.
How many dots are required to form 25 squares?

    A)              64

    B)              49

    C)                            36

    D)                           25

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    If the number of squares is \[\text{1}=\text{ 1 }\times \text{ 1}\] the  number of dots required\[~=\text{2}\times \text{2}=\text{4}.\] If the number of squares is \[\text{4 }=\text{ 2 }\times \text{ 2}\] the number of dots required \[\text{= 3  }\!\!\times\!\!\text{  3 = 9}\]. If the number of squares is \[\text{9 }=\text{ 3 }\times \text{ 3}\] The number of dots required \[=\text{4 }\times \text{ 4}=\text{16}\] If the number of squares is 16 the number of dots required \[=\text{ 5 }\times \text{ 5 }=\text{ 25}\]. So, to form 25 squares \[=\text{5}\times \text{5},\] the             number of dots required \[=\text{ 6 }\times \text{ 6 }=\text{ 36}\].
