SSC Quantitative Aptitude Number System and its Operations Question Bank Numbers and Their Principles (II)

  • question_answer
The product of two numbers is 1575 and their quotient is 9/7. Then, the sum of the number is

    A) 74

    B) 78

    C) 80

    D) 90

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    [c] Let the numbers be a and b. Then, \[ab=1575\]                                  ...(i) and       \[\frac{a}{b}=\frac{9}{7}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[a=\frac{9b}{7}\] Putting this value in Eq. (i), we get \[\frac{9b}{7}\times b=1575\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{b}^{2}}=1575\times \frac{7}{9}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{b}^{2}}=175\times 7={{5}^{2}}\times {{7}^{2}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[b=35\] \[\therefore \]      \[a=\frac{9}{7}\times 35\]             = 45 Thus, sum of the numbers \[=a+6=45+35=80\]
