When 335 is added to 5A7, the result is 8B 2. 8B 2 is divisible by 3. What is the largest possible value of A?

    A) 8

    B) 2

    C) 1

    D) 4

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    [d] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[1+A+3=B\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[A+4=B\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[A=B-4\] To find the largest possible value of A, the value of B should be maximum. 8 B 2 is divisible by 3. \[\therefore \] \[B=2\]or 5 or 8 (\[\therefore \]  \[8+B+2\] is divisible by 3.) But largest value of B is 8. Thus, \[A=B-4=8-4=4\]
