The monthly incomes of A and B are in the ratio 2 : 3 and their monthly expenses are in the ratio 5 : 9. If each of them saves Rs. 600 per month, then their monthly incomes are

    A) Rs. 1500, Rs. 2250

    B) Rs. 1200, Rs. 1800

    C) Rs. 1600, Rs. 2400

    D) Rs. 1400, Rs. 2100

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

[c] Let the incomes of A and B be Rs. 2x and Rs. 3x respectively and their expenditures be Rs. 5y and Rs. 9y, respectively. Then, \[2x-5y=600\]                                        ...(i) and       \[3x-9y=600\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-3y=200\]                              ...(ii) On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[x=800\] So, their incomes are Rs. 1600 and Rs. 2400, respectively.
