JEE Main & Advanced Mathematics Trigonometric Equations Question Bank Relation between sides and angles, Solutions of triangles

  • question_answer
If the angles of a triangle are in the ratio 1: 2: 3, then their corresponding sides are in the ratio [MP PET 1993; BIT Ranchi 1992; Pb. CET 1990]

    A) 1 : 2 : 3

    B) \[1:\sqrt{3}:2\]

    C) \[\sqrt{2}:\sqrt{3}:3\]

    D) \[1:\sqrt{3}:3\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Angles are \[x+2x+3x={{180}^{o}}\]or 30o, 60o and 90o, therefore sides are in ratio of \[\sin {{30}^{o}}:\sin {{60}^{o}}:\sin {{90}^{o}}\] \[=\frac{1}{2}:\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2}:1=1:\sqrt{3}:2\]. Note: This is a fact. We have used it in so many questions.
