As one grows into an adult, the society prescribes different roles to men and women. A girl's beauty and gentleness is appreciated, whereas a boy's achievements are praised-Gradually, as a girl grows, she understands that she is expected to get married and have children. Family's welfare becomes her main concern - she must become a loving, compassionate, caring, sympathetic, submissive woman. Male stereotypic role is that of a financial provider. He is expected to be aggressive, rational, and dominant and career oriented. Thus, social norms stifle the growth of a woman as an individual and as an equal partner to a man.
