How do the location and extent of India affect its climate? Explain by giving four examples.

    Answer:

The effect of location on climate:
    (a) India lies in the northern hemisphere. The Tropic of Cancer divides the country into two equal parts.
    (b) The northern half lies in the sub-tropical zone while the southern half lies in the tropical zone.
    (c) Its location is responsible in receiving monsoonal rainfall in summer.
    (d) The effect of extent on climate:
Due to its vast north-south extent, the temperature varies.
There is hardly any winter season in Peninsular India, but winters are severe in the north. The duration of day is longer in the northern part of India than the southern part.
