Mumbai receives more rainfall in summer season while Chennai in winter. Give two reasons for each.

    Answer:

Mumbai receives more rainfall in summer from the Arabian Sea branch, blowing from June to September.
    (a) It is located on the western coast.
    (b) It is located on the windward side of Western Ghats. The winds are on-shore, blowing from sea to land.
    (c) Chennai is located on the eastern coast.
By the time Arabian Sea branch advances towards Chennai, it becomes off-shore and gives less rain. Bay of Bengal branch blows parallel to eastern coast and does not shed rain in Chennai.
Chennai receives most of its rain from north-east monsoons in winter and 2/3rd of the rainfall from the retreating monsoons aided by cyclones in October to December.
