Since it is the first region to receive rainfall, Malabar coast experiences heavy rains in the month of June/July. Coromandel coast is on the eastern coastal strip, it hardly gets any rain from the Arabian Sea branch of the south-west monsoons, because by the time it reaches Coromandel coast, it has shed most of its moisture. Coromandel coast gets most of its rainfall from the north-east monsoons in November/December, when north-east monsoons pick up moisture from the Bay of Bengal and give rainfall to Coromandel coast.
