    Discuss the main features of Narmada Basin and Tapi basin.

    Answer:

    (a) Narmada Basin:
    (i) The Narmada (1290 km) rises near Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh and flows westward in the Arabian Sea. It flows through a trough (Rift valley) and drains into Gulf of Khambat through an estuary.
    (ii) It flows through Marble rocks of Madhya Pradesh. Its basin is shared by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. It has formed trellis drainage pattern.
    (b) Tapi nasin :
    (i) Tapi flows westward in a trough basin, parallel to the Narmada. It is shorter in length.
    (ii) Tapi rises in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh and drains into Gulf of Khambhat. Its basin is shared by Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
