    (a) Which part of India has the densest network of railways. Why?
    (b) Which part of India has the sparse network of railways. Why?
     

    Answer:

    (a) Northern plains of India has the densest network of railways. This mainly due to level land, soft rocks construction is cheaper and easy. It is the most densely populated region and agricultural industrially well developed where development of transport is necessary.
    (b) In the extreme northern, north eastern and northern western parts and the interior Deccan has sparse network of railways. This is because of rugged and uneven terrain sandy where constructing railways is difficult and expensive. These regions are industrially and agricultural less developed with sparse population resulting in less networking railways.
