Water is flowing at the rate of 5 km/h through a pipe of diameter 14 cm into a rectangular tank which is 50 m long and 44 m wide. The time taken (in hour) for the rise in the level of water in the tank to be 7 cm is

    A) 2

    B) \[1\frac{1}{2}\]

    C) 3

    D) \[2\frac{1}{2}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    [a] \[\because \]\[l=50\,m,\]\[b=44\,m,\]\[h=7cm\] \[=0.07\,m\] \[\therefore \] Volume of tank \[=lbh=50\times 44\times 0.07\] and volume of water flowing per hour \[=\pi {{(7)}^{2}}\times \frac{5000}{10000}\] Hence, required time \[=\frac{\text{Volume}\,\,\text{of}\,\,\text{tank}}{\text{Volume}\,\,\text{of}\,\,\text{water}}\] \[=\frac{50\times 44\times 0.07\times 7\times 10000}{22\times {{7}^{2}}\times 5000}=2\,h\]
