How does the legislature keep a check on the executive?

    Answer:

The legislature has the right to question the executive (Council of Ministers) on policies and programmes and a variety of other things to do with the governance of the country. During the Question Hour, members of Parliament can raise specific queries about the functioning of the government. They may also raise issues of public concern during the Zero Hour. In short, the executive is answerable to the legislature and can function only as long as it has the support of a majority of the MPs. If the Lok Sabha passes a vote of no confidence against the Council of Ministers, the latter must resign.
